STRONG ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIPS VITAL FOR GLOBAL ENERGY SECURITY - SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE;
10TH EDITION OF PETROTECH SERIES OF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE INAUGURATED

 

The 10th International Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition, was formally inaugurated by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in a glittering ceremony here today in the presence of Shri S Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister, P&NG, Shri RPN Singh, Minister of State, P&NG and a host of dignitaries and invitees.

In his inaugural address , the President congratulated the Petrotech Society for their contribution to the development of hydrocarbon sector in India and its integration with the global hydrocarbon industry. He said that the need of the times for India was to build strong economic partnerships with other oil producing countries and their oil and gas industries to the mutual benefit of each other. Special attention was required for development of research and emerging new technologies which are innovative and advanced, yet affordable. The Indian hydrocarbon sector must be equipped to responsibly deliver cleaner, more reliable and viable energy. The President put forth his expectation from the domestic Oil & Gas Industry to place sustainable development at the core of its business decisions. He also said that Conferences like this enable professionals and technologists to keep abreast of the latest developments at the global level.

Elaborating on the critical challenge of the growing energy demand in the country, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri. S. Jaipal Reddy said that India is now focused on incorporating the Triple Bottom Line philosophy of People, Planet and Profit into their business models. The Government of India is working towards finding holistic solutions to the growing concern about environment and energy security in the country. He stressed that we need to take initiatives to maximize the longevity of our existing assets and India has to realize its energy potential completely. Shri Reddy also drew attention to all participating delegates and guests to the fact that hydrocarbon sector in India offers great opportunities for both Indian and International companies driven by factors such as under-explored sedimentary basins, unconventional hydrocarbon sources.

Shri R.S Butola, Chairman, IndianOil, while welcoming the galaxy of dignitaries, Ministers from foreign countries, technologists, delegates, guests and media gathered on the occasion, expressed the desire to bring the best minds of the oil sector across the globe on a platform like Petrotech Conference to deliberate on various issues affecting the oil industry. Shri Butola mentioned that Petrotech Conference is becoming a significant event in the global calendar and will be considered a viable platform to find solutions to global concerns on energy.

The event also witnessed an award ceremony where Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on distinguished personnel for their significant contribution to the oil sector in the country. Shri Md. Asad Pathan, Shri U. Sundarajan, Late Shri Subir Raha and Shri S.J Chopra were the individuals who were awarded with this prestigious honour by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

A beautifully created Audio- visual film aptly titled ‘Energy Next for Generation Next.’ was screened on the occasion. The film was based on the aspirations of the new generation of Indians seeking solutions from the leaders of our country.
